Specialist SEN (SEMH) Teaching Assistant

School: River Mead School

Salary: Grade E (£17,772 – £18,746), Grade F (£18,746 – £20,661), Grade G (£20,661 – £22,658) or Grade H (22,658 – £24,964) per year (pro-rata) depending on qualifications and experience

Hours: 31 – 37 hours per week, term time only

Start date: Monday 13th November 2017 or earlier if possible

Closing date: 9am on Monday 2nd October 2017

Interview date: Thursday 12th October 2017 (to be confirmed)

We are seeking to appoint a Specialist SEN (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to work within the new SEMH provision at River Mead School. We believe that children only get one chance to experience childhood, and that they have an absolute right to the highest quality of education. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a track record of shaping practice around the following principles:

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments
  • There is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers
  • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates

We are seeking applicants who are:

  • Passionate about improving learning opportunities for children with SEMH within a creative curriculum
  • Experienced Teaching Assistants with SEMH/SEN knowledge and practice  evidenced within an educational or family support environment
  • A strong motivation to support children with additional, and often challenging, needs
  • Flexible, with a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a good sense of humour
  • Able to work with other professionals and parents/carers to meet the needs of individual children
  • Committed to ongoing professional development
  • Resourceful, resilient and able to work on own initiative

Ideally the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience and interest in successfully working with children with SEMH needs possibly within a specialist learning environment
  • Experience of working with parents/carers to support their child/ren
  • NVQ or any other relevant qualification
